Dhobi Ghat,

Just saw the movie Dhobi Ghat (Mumbai Dairies), feel like writing some random thoughts about it.

Well I kind of liked the movie, Kiran Rao has done a decent job, not that the movie is paisa vasule, but certainly well thought of, reasonably detailed characters, carefully edited and directed, may be a bit simple for the first time. Like the way the movie concentrates on the characters without taking support of any munni or shiela. To some extent the director does manage to convey his thoughts of portraying glimpses of Mumbai. But then, Mumbai is way too big to be covered by a movie and that too by a director/writer making his own movie for the first time. Also like the Deglam avatar of Amir in the movie. His ability to look simple differentiates him so much from the likes of SRK.

Portryal of the character "Yasmin" is so creative, have not seen this way of story telling before. And the "Shai" chick is so cute. Prateik Babbar, dont really like his voice but like his choice of movies in general.

But why the name, Dhobi Ghat ? Does'nt seem related to mumbai diaries, well may be cause the Dhobi character linked the other two and it sounds like a nice name for a movie.

Kiran Rao, seems to be joining the genre of people who like to make movies just for the sheer pleasure of it, see it as a form of art, a platform for creativity. For some reason, I feel attracted towards such people who make movies from the heart.

Kiran Rao, you have definitely made a good first impression. Looking into your background from wiki I realize that you are associated with Monsoon Wedding, Swades and Lagaan. Considering that this was a first one, you are allowed some leeway I guess. The movie was a bit too light. But yeah, I like your style, will keep an eye for your next one.
